WEBSTER CUTS THE RIBBON ON NEW HIGHWAY FACILITY

Town of Webster completes Highway facility construction ahead of schedule, under budget;

Barry A. Deane Highway Facility named to honor past Highway Superintendent, Councilman

WEBSTER, NY — Webster Town Supervisor Tom Flaherty joined Pat Stephens, Webster Highway Superintendent, current and former members of the Webster Town Board, and Webster Highway Department staff to cut the ribbon on the new Webster Highway Department Facility. The initial planning for the new Webster Highway Facility began in Fall 2021 and is a portion of a larger capital project for the Highway campus, which includes a new truck wash station and salt barn.

Ground was officially broken for the new 80,000-square-foot facility in September 2023, with the first steel being erected in February 2024. The construction of the new facility, completed in early 2025, was months ahead of schedule and under budget.

“Today we are celebrating much more than a new building,” said Flaherty. “This milestone recognizes a vision for the continued delivery of essential and enhanced services to Webster residents. We are proud to have completed this portion of the Highway project ahead of schedule and under budget.”

This new facility includes proper and safe storage and maintenance of the Highway Department's fleet, in addition to updated administrative areas and staff facilities to support staff delivering essential services to the Webster community.

The Webster Highway Department is responsible for the maintenance of over 128 miles of Town roads, nearly 400 lane miles of roadway within the Town, and all drainage. The Department also offers several quality-of-life services to residents, including fall leaf collection, material pickup and delivery, and snow removal.

“This facility was built with the future in mind,” said Stephens. “As the Town of Webster changes and progresses, this state-of-the-art building will ensure our community can expect a high level of service from the Webster Highway Department. We look forward to continuing to serve the Town of Webster.”

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, the Town of Webster revealed the new facility will be named the Barry A. Deane Highway Facility. The name honors former Highway Superintendent and long-time Webster Town Board member, Barry Deane.

Deane served the Webster Highway Department in several positions for nearly forty years, beginning in 1971. He served the department as Superintendent from July 1992 through his retirement in 2008. In 2010, Deane began his tenure as a Town Councilman, serving Webster for twelve years in this capacity. Throughout his service, he was a strong advocate for an upgraded Highway Department facility to assist in delivering necessary services to the Webster community.

Tours of the new facility will be offered to the community in the coming months.
